Free Standing Baths: Introducing an Element of Luxury to Your Home

Free standing baths are a fantastic way to bring an element of luxury and style into your bathroom, and into the overall feel of your home. Their general design has been around for years, ever since tin tubs and kettles of boiled water were the only way to properly wash oneself. Where once they were an average everyday item though, they are now a vintage icon.

The Placement of Free Standing Baths

Free standing baths tend to be the focal point of your bathroom. Whether they are placed in the centre of the room or off to one side, they never fail to catch your eye. There are a number of things you need to consider when deciding on the placement of your bath, and not least is the cleaning and maintenance.

If you are placing your bath along the side of room, by the wall, then it can be difficult to get around the side to clean it. Some baths won’t need as much cleaning around the outside as others do, whilst others are easier to move. This is one of the benefits of having your bath in the centre of the room; it makes it easier to get to all angles of the bath in order to clean it properly and efficiently.

Some people don’t see the point in free standing baths if they are just going to be placed along the wall. Whilst they still look elegant and beautiful, they don’t stand out as much as they would in the centre of the room.

If you want to place your bath in the centre, you need to ensure that the room is big enough. They can make a small room look cramped and tacky, which is the opposite of the look you will be going for.

You also need to consider whether you will be including a shower in your free standing bath. You can get free standing showers to go with them, but will need to make sure that you can hang up a shower curtain to keep the water in – unless you don’t mind a wet floor!

Plumbing

The plumbing of a free standing bath works much the same as a normal bath. Depending upon where you have chosen to place the bath, the pipes can run up the wall or down through the floor, and are a design feature themselves.

Because the plumbing for these types of bath are open to viewing, rather than being behind the scenes like a normal bath, they are designed to look as beautiful and elegant as possible. The exposed pipes are made from brass, and tend to be covered in chrome, copper, or brushed nickel. You can choose either simple or elaborate faucets, depending on the style of the bath you have chosen.

Choosing the Style

There are many different styles of free standing baths to choose from. There are the simple, chic styles of bath with their smooth sides and shiny taps, and then there are the antique styles of free standing baths with the charm of either the pedestal or the claw feet. Then there are more modern versions, and those based on different cultures across the world.

There are styles out there to suit everyone, and they all have their unique elements that make them so special. Because there are so many available, it will be simple enough to choose a bath that fits with your current style and décor – that’s if you don’t choose to give your bathroom a complete makeover!
